Who’s Afraid of the Ten Commandments?

Apparently not the folks in Kentucky. They had a simple, small display of a wall in the Courthouse, along with other historical documents that represent the history of law in the United States. Well, of course, the ACLU would have none of that! After all, I’m sure they thought, the Ten Commandments might warp the mind of some poor, unsuspecting youth that might wander in and read these heinous statements, “Thou shalt not kill?!!” Why, how could one play a video game in peace!?! But, it seems the Federal Appeals Court didn’t buy it!

Court Calls ACLU Arguments Against Ten Commandments Display “Tiresome”

“Judge Richard Suhrheinrich’s ruling said the ACLU brought ‘tiresome’ arguments about the ‘wall of separation’ between church and state, and it said the organization does not represent a ‘reasonable person.’ The decision was issued by a three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Cincinnati. It upheld a lower-court decision that allowed Mercer County to continue displaying the Ten Commandments along with the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the words to ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and other documents. All of the items were posted at the same time in 2001.”

It is interesting how a country founded on “Freedom OF Religion,” has become known as a country that has elements trying to achieve “Free FROM Religion.” There IS a small difference, ya know.

Microsoft Slapped with a $32 Million Dollar Fine!

Whoa! This might eat into Uncle Bill’s bubble gum money!

Microsoft Fined in South Korea!

“Less than a month after it reached a $30 million settlement with South Korean Internet portal Daum, Microsoft has been fined another $32 million by the country’s Fair Trade Commission. The Korean FTC has also ordered Microsoft to unbundle its instant messaging client and media player from Windows, and link to competing software.”

Microsoft has been “naughty!” And, for once, somebody is holding them to it!

“Podcast” is the New Word of the Year for 2005!

Never let it be said that we are not on the “cutting edge” of Geek Culture! It has now been officially proclaimed that the word “podcast” is the “New Word of the Year for 2005!” It beat out terms like “bird flu”, “lifehack”, and others.

Podcast is Word of the Year!

So, stay tuned and listen to the “Dr. Bill – The Computer Curmudgeon Podcast!” We are “where its at!” [Grin!]

Flawed Study Again Shows Microsoft is Willing to Lie to Dis Linux!

As the author says, “Another day, another lame attempt by Microsoft to show that Windows is better than Linux.” Of course we know, it is not! However, that doesn’t stop M$ from pulling out the stops to lie about it!

Opinion: New Linux study suggests fundamental Microsoft credibility problems

Read this article carefully. Bottom line: If M$ is willing to skew the data this much, what does it say about their belief in their own product?!? There is a reason that Netcraft says (as of today) that Linux has 70.98% of the Web server market. That is out of 74,572,794 sites that reported. Dewd! The numbers tell the story. Webmasters know who to trust. After all, you want your Web server up at ALL times!

By the way, I am (of course) running CentOS Linux on all my web servers at Dr. Bill Bailey.NET. Word.

Open Source ISN’T Communism!

Bill Gates and his evil minions would like you to believe that Open Source software like Linux, Firefox, and OpenOffice are all EVIL because they are open and free. Riiiight! And he (and they) wouldn’t have any reason to “paint” Open Source as a “commie-plot” now would they… no, surely not!

Open Source Isn’t Communism

In point of fact, I am a HUGE Open Source supporter, and I am also anti-commie, serious right wing Christian extremist. (Yes, I say “extremist,” because as a Christian, I am EXTREMELY blessed!) So… I could never support anything that was commie in nature. However, if there are folks that love to code and develop software and share it to the world for free… then, dewd, I am there! So, why support Uncle Bill Gates and company when you can use free and Open Source software? Good question!

Will the Senate Make Spyware Illegal?

Spyware illegal?! NOW we’re talkin’!

Senate Considers Spyware Bill

I hope that they actually get this passed! After all, installing something on my PC is like violating my property rights. Hummmmm… but then, the Supreme Court recently shot our property rights in the foot, didn’t they? Sigh. We can only hope that they will protect us in “cyberspace” better than in “real space!”

Protect Yourself From Third Party Cookies!

Cookies are fairly benign insofar as web sites go… IF they are used only by the web site that you have gone to, in order to help the site itself know that you have moved from point “A” to point “B” within the same site. However, if a third party site, say one that has an advertisement, or banner ad, on that web site sets a cookie on your browser, THEN that cookie could be used to track you to other sites that they also advertise on, thus tracking your movements! Evil alert! Evil alert!

How can you prevent this? Set your Firefox Browser to accept ONLY cookies from the current website, NOT from third parties! Go into “Tools”, then select “Options”, then click on “Privacy”, now check the box shown in the image below:

Firefox Privacy Tip

See? The box marked “For the originating site web only.” This option is not turned on by default. You HAVE to set it yourself. There you go! You are now harder to track, and therefore, safer on the web!

And, if you MUST use Microsoft Internet Explorer, then do this: Go to “Tools”, “Internet Options”, “Privacy”, “Advanced”, then check on “Override automatic cookie handling”, and select “Accept” for First-party cookies, and “Block” for Third-party cookies.
